Which bricks are best AAC blocks or Red brick blocks in building wall construction? Comparison between AAC blocks and Red bricks blocks?

The bricks blocks are used the construction of walls. In the olden days the walls are constructed with soil but the structure which is made with soil is not durable more than 10 years due to weathering action. After that the engineers are developed red bricks for the better durability of the structure. By using red brick walls we can develop the durable structure because of the higher density of the brick the dead load acting on the building is increasing. To overcome this problem the civil engineers again developed the AAC brick blocks for the better durability and for the lesser density of the structure. In this article you will able to learn about which blocks are best AAC blocks or Red brick blocks for the wall construction.

AAC Brick blocks

AAC stands for autoclaved aerated concrete blocks. These blocks are also called as light weight concrete blocks and they are easy to handle in the construction. Due to the presents of voids in the AAC blocks the weight of the block is less. The AAC blocks of size 600mmX250mmX150mm are available as the standard size which is having density approximately 651kg/m3 to 750kg/m3. In general standards the volume of 1AAC block equal to 8 red brick blocks volume. The AAC blocks are generally used in high rise buildings for decreasing the dead load of the structure. The composition and the view of the AAC brick block is shown in the below table and image.

Red brick blocks

The red brick is the traditional bricks used in the wall construction. The standard size 190mmX90mmX90mm are available in the market. The red brick blocks are made with clay and the processing of manufacturing is made at different levels like material mixing, molding and burning in the kiln. The density of red brick block is varies between the 1600kg/m3 to 1700kg/m3 value. These red brick blocks are used in all types of wall constructions. The below table and figure shows the composition and the image of red brick block used in the wall construction.

Comparison between the AAC blocks and Red Brick blocks

The following 12 comparison points are the major comparison between the AAC and red brick blocks used in the wall construction.

S. No AAC Blocks Red brick blocks
1 This bricks are Light weight and less density This bricks are having more weight and more density
2 These are reduces the Dead load on the structure due to lesser density values These are having the higher Dead load on the structure due to high density values
3 The AAC blocks are not immersed in water due to the presents of the more voids The AAC blocks are immersed in water due to the presents of the less voids
4 Labor cost is less for making the walls Labor cost is more for making the walls when we compared with AAC blocks
5 Cost required for labor required approximately 400RS for 10ftX10ft wall. Cost required for labor required approximately 1400RS for 10ftX10ft wall.
6 Motor cost approximately required 650 Rs for 10ftX10ft wall. Motor cost approximately required 1350 Rs for 10ftX10ft wall.
7 The standard sizes of 600mmX250mmX150mm available in the market The standard sizes of 190mmX90mmX90mm available in the market
8 The value of dry density for AAC blocks varies between 651 kg/m3 to 750 kg/m3. The value of dry density for AAC blocks varies between 1600 kg/m3 to 1700 kg/m3.
9 For the AAC blocks the water absorption will not allow more than 10% For the red brick blocks the water absorption will not allow more than 20%
10 The compressive strength of AAC block is 5N/mm2 The compressive strength of red brick block is 3.5N/mm2.
11 The AAC  block can resist the fir up to 4 hours The red brick block can resist the fir up to 2 hours
12 The AAC Blocks are generally used in the high rise building structures where dead load required lesser intensity. The red brick blocks are used in the all types of wall construction.

Conclusions of which is best AAC or Red bricks in wall construction and comparison between the AAC blocks and red brick blocks

Well now the above explained concepts are the basic points are the comparison between the AAC brick blocks and red brick blocks used in the building wall constriction. As per the observations it was concluded that AAC bricks is having lesser density used to reduce the dead weight of the structure, the compressive strength of AAC is 5N/mm2 which is more than 3.5N/mm2 (red brick block). The AAC blocks are easy to handle in the site rather than the red brick blocks. Cost required for the labor is also having less for AAC blocks when we compared with red brick blocks.

From these points we can easily say that due to various advantages of AAC blocks over the red brick blocks we can use in the concoction now a days.
