How many bricks are required to build 10feetX10feet, 15feetX15feet, 20feetX20feet wall?

Bricks are generally used to building the walls in the construction. Frequently many civil engineers are used to make building wall with red clay bricks. The standard size of clay brick is used as 90mmX90mmX190mm size dimensions. In this article you will able to learn about how to calculate the number of bricks required for 10feetX10feet, 15feetX10feet and 20feetX10feet walls.

The number of bricks required for the walls are generally depends upon the type of the bond which is used in the wall construction.

Types of bonds used in the wall construction

Generally we will use four types of bonds in the wall construction which are listed below

  1. Stretcher bond
  2. Header bond
  3. English bond
  4. Flemish bond

The complete concepts of the types of bonds in the walls are explained in the previous blog post read with below specified link.

Which bond is best Flemish bond or English bond? Types of bonds in the building wall construction.

Among the specified four bonds generally we will use Flemish bond because of its high bonding action between the bricks in the vertical direction. So for calculating the number of bricks in this case I used Flemish bond the same procedure can be applied for remaining stretcher bond, header bond and English bond.

Number of bricks required for 10feetX10feet brick wall

By converting 10feet to mm we will get approximately 3048mm in length direction and height direction. For the bonding between the bricks generally we will use 20mm cement mortar. For the single brick and single cement mortar it is required approximately the summation of single brick length and thickness of mortar.

= 190mm+20mm = 210mm

For the single row it is required approximately 3048mm/210mm numbers of brick and mortar and which is of 14.5 numbers. Let us consider the total number as 15 numbers in the length direction.

Again in the same process for calculating the number of blocks in the height direction we will consider 90mm dimension of brick and 20mm cement mortar thickness. For the single brick and single cement mortar it is required approximately the summation of single brick width and thickness of mortar in the height direction.

= 90mm+20mm = 110mm

For the single column it is required approximately 3048mm/110mm numbers of brick and mortar and which is of 27.70 numbers. Let us consider the total number as 28 numbers in the height direction.

Finally for the construction of 10feetX10feet wall it required approximately

= 15X28 numbers of bricks blocks = 420 numbers of 190mmX90mmX90mm bricks.

Number of bricks required for 15feetX10feet brick wall

By converting 15feet to mm we will get approximately 4572mm in length direction and height direction. For the bonding between the bricks generally we will use 20mm cement mortar. For the single brick and single cement mortar it is required approximately the summation of single brick length and thickness of mortar.

= 190mm+20mm = 210mm

For the single row it is required approximately 4572mm/210mm numbers of brick and mortar and which is of 21.77 numbers. Let us consider the total number as 22 numbers in the length direction.

Finally for the construction of 15feetX10feet wall it required approximately

= 22X28 numbers of bricks blocks = 616 numbers of 190mmX90mmX90mm bricks.

Number of bricks required for 20feetX10feet brick wall

By converting 15feet to mm we will get approximately 6096mm in length direction and height direction. For the bonding between the bricks generally we will use 20mm cement mortar. For the single brick and single cement mortar it is required approximately the summation of single brick length and thickness of mortar.

= 190mm+20mm = 210mm

For the single row it is required approximately 6096mm/210mm numbers of brick and mortar and which is of 29.028 numbers. Let us consider the total number as 30 numbers in the length direction.

Finally for the construction of 20feetX10feet wall it required approximately

= 30X28 numbers of bricks blocks = 840 numbers of 190mmX90mmX90mm bricks.

The below table shows the complete details of number of bricks required for 3 cases of walls related to the 10feetX10feet, 15feetX10feet and 20feetX10feet.

S. No Wall dimensions Number of blocks in length Number of blocks in height Total bricks required
1 10feetX10feet 15 28 420
2 15feetX10feet 22 28 616
3 20feetX10feet 30 28 840

Conclusions of number of bricks required for 10feetX10feet, 15feetX10feet and 20FeetX10feet dimensions

Well now the above explained concepts are related to the complete detailed calculation of number of bricks required for the wall construction as per the dimensions of the wall. For the wall of 10feetX10feet dimensions it is required approximately 15 numbers of the bricks in length direction, 28 bricks in height direction, for 15feetX10feet dimensions it is required approximately 22 numbers of the bricks in length direction, 28 bricks in height direction, and finally for 20feetX10feet dimensions it is required approximately 30 numbers of the bricks in length direction, 28 bricks in height direction.
