How to calculate the dimensions of the sump in building construction?
Slump is the essential component in the building construction now a day s for storing the water for the requirements. Before constructing the sump tank in the building construction it is important to calculate the dimensions of the sump pit. Basically the sump in the building construction mainly taken in the two shapes one is related to the rectangular and another is circular. The oval shape is sometimes considered depending upon the requirements of the volume of the water which is needed for 1day or 2days or 3dyas etc. in this blog post you can able to learn about some basic concepts of complete calculation of volume of sump tank and calculation of dimensions of the sump tank which is comes under the rectangular and circular shapes.
According to the world health organisation (WHO) it is required approximately 50 liters to 100 liters of water for 1 single person in a day life. But if we take an extra of 50% than the maximum value becomes 150 liters per day.
The sump capacity and dimensions calculations are purely similar to the water tank capacity and dimensions calculations. The complete concepts are available in my previous blog post read the complete concepts with below link.
How to calculate the complete dimensions of water tank in building construction
Factors effecting on the dimensions of sump
The basic two factors are considered in the dimensions calculations of the sump in the building design which are
- Number of persons living
- Number of days of water storage
Number of persons living
The capacity of the sump tank is depends upon the first factor number of persons living in the building. The minimum of 4 members is considered in small 2BHK buildings and maximum of N number of peoples considered in the high rise apartment building structure. If the number of people increases in the building structure than the water required for that people will be increases in the same process if the number of people decreases in the building structure than the water required for that people will be deceases.
Number of days of water storage
This is the second factor which is considered in the capacity of water storage sump. If the number of storage days increases than we need to increase the capacity and dimension of the tank. In the same process if the number of storage days decreases than we need to decrease the capacity and dimension of the tank.
Calculation of dimensions of sump tank for 4 people
For 1 person it is required approximately maximum of 100 liters per day as per the WHO standards. For the extra 50% case it is required approximately 150liters.
Here we need to calculate the capacity for the 4 people
So the final water required for 4 people is approximately = 4X150 = 600 liters
Let us consider water is stored for 1 week usage so final volume of water required 7 days = 600X7 =4200 liters
Case A : Rectangular shape tank
Volume = 4200 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 4200/1000 = 4.2 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
X= 2m, Y=1.5m and Z = 1.5m
Volume = 2X1.5X1.5 = 4.5 m3 Approximately
Case B : Circular shape tank
Volume = 4200 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 4200/1000 = 4.2 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
Radius of tank r= 0.75m and height of tank H= 2.5m
Volume = Pr2H
3.1415X(0.75X0.75)X2.5 = 4.4177 m3 Approximately
Calculation of dimensions of sump tank for 6 people
For 1 person it is required approximately maximum of 100 liters per day as per the WHO standards. For the extra 50% case it is required approximately 150liters.
Here we need to calculate the capacity for the 4 people
So the final water required for 4 people is approximately = 6X150 = 900 liters
Let us consider water is stored for 1 week usage so final volume of water required 7 days = 900X7 =6300 liters
Case A : Rectangular shape tank
Volume = 6300 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume =6300/1000 = 6.3 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
X= 2m, Y=2m and Z = 1.6m
Volume = 2X2X1.6 = 6.4 m3 Approximately
Case B : Circular shape tank
Volume = 6300 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 6300/1000 = 6.3 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
Radius of tank r= 1m and height of tank H= 2.6m
Volume = Pr2H
3.1415X(1X1)X2.1 = 6.6 m3 Approximately
Calculation of dimensions of sump tank for 8 people
For 1 person it is required approximately maximum of 100 liters per day as per the WHO standards. For the extra 50% case it is required approximately 150liters.
Here we need to calculate the capacity for the 8 people
So the final water required for 8people is approximately = 8X150 = 1200 liters
Let us consider water is stored for 1 week usage so final volume of water required 7 days = 1200X7 =8400 liters
Case A : Rectangular shape tank
Volume = 8400 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 8400/1000 = 8.4 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
X= 2.5m, Y=2m and Z = 1.75m
Volume = 2.5X2X1.75 = 8.75 m3 Approximately
Case B : Circular shape tank
Volume = 8400 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 8400/1000 = 4.2 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
Radius of tank r= 1.2 and height of tank H= 2m
Volume = Pr2H
3.1415X(1.2X1.2)X2 = 9 m3 Approximately
Calculation of dimensions of sump tank for 10 people
For 1 person it is required approximately maximum of 100 liters per day as per the WHO standards. For the extra 50% case it is required approximately 150liters.
Here we need to calculate the capacity for the 4 people
So the final water required for 4 people is approximately = 10X150 = 1500 liters
Let us consider water is stored for 1 week usage so final volume of water required 7 days = 1500X7 =10500 liters
Case A : Rectangular shape tank
Volume = 10500 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume =10500/1000 = 10.5 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
X= 3m, Y=2.5m and Z = 1.5m
Volume = 3X2.5X1.5 = 11.25 m3 Approximately
Case B : Circular shape tank
Volume = 10500 liters
By converting water from liters to cubic meter
Now volume = 10500/1000 = 10.5 m3
By assuming the dimension of water tank
Radius of tank r= 1.2m and height of tank H= 2.4m
Volume = Pr2H
3.1415X(1.2X1.2)X2.4 = 10.857 m3 Approximately
